The amazing resiliency of the mind, body and spirit

Can you remember a time when you blew your own damn mind by your sheer will power to accomplish a goal?  At the end you were exhausted, yet proud of the energy you pulled from a mysterious source called resiliency.

How quickly did you recover from the struggle of that experience?

“No one escapes pain, fear, and suffering.  Yet from pain can come wisdom, from fear can come courage, from suffering can come strength – if we have the virtue of resilience.”  Eric Greitens

Resilience in action

This past week Jeff and I were preoccupied with the exhausting task of completing a month’s worth of work on our home in Ohio in less than a week.

Most of the empty nesters I know mourn the day their kids fly the coop.  A house once filled with unending activity and the laughter of teenagers becomes piercingly quiet and still.  Jeff and I took an unorthodox approach to this season.  WE flew the coop and left the house to the kids.  I love my kids dearly, but leaving a house to college students who had friends and animals move in and out of it for eight years created a massive project for us.

So, Jeff and I drove to Ohio (a two day trip), spent six straight days emptying the house of left behind junk, cleaning every nook and cranny, fixing broken things, and painting nearly every room and baseboard.  The house looked brand new when we were done.  Thank God my father in-law flew up to help us and did an awesome job keeping up with the work frenzy.  In between working, I got to play with my grandson who brightened every single day and managed to see my family (if for only a short time).

Needless to say, every night I went to bed wondering how I would do it agin the next day.  Every day I woke up and worked from a mysterious energy that can only be described as sheer will power.

It hit me as Jeff and I was driving back to Texas that what I experienced and continue to see in my life is the amazing resiliency of the human mind, body and spirit.

I’m confident in your resiliency

I know you have your own stories… mind, body and spirit.

Can you remember a time you couldn’t imagine ever recovering from?  {A hurtful word said, a failure that seemed final, etc.}. Your capacity to forgive yourself and others, and to choose to reframe any circumstance is an amazing function of a well managed mind.

If you ever broken a bone, cut yourself or got stung by a bee, you know the amazing ability of the body to heal.

The best example of resiliency is a mamma who gives birth and is willing to experience it again.

Have you ever survived a tornado, hurricane or flood?  It is heartwarming to witness the human spirit rally behind communities in the clean up efforts.

There are so many examples!

At times we have no choice but to be resilient, but we are and that is amazing.

Can you believe?

Resilience is defined as the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.  It’s a noun, a thing.

Once you realize your capacity, resiliency is impelling.  There is nothing you won’t take on with the mysterious energy that comes from wisdom, courage and strength. ~ Tiffany

So, let me encourage you to get curious.

In unavoidable circumstances, do you believe you are resilient?

What difficult task would you undertake if you believed you had the ability to recover quickly?

Looking back, have you ever blown your own damn mind?

What keeps you from having resilience?

Who determines your resiliency?

I’m crazy enough to believe

Failing forward is essential to your success in any endeavor and resiliency is the key.  I am confident in your capacity.  You can imagine the life you desire and work through any obstacle with wisdom, courage and strength.

Maybe you just need a little push.

I want you to help you realize your capacity to process the obstacles and take creative control of your life.

I get knocked down… but I get up again!

Week #3 topic: What is some things you have done but previously thought you could never do? It took me several days to figure out what I would share, then it finally hit me at 4:30 this morning when I woke up singing, “I get knocked down, but I get up again” by ChumbawambaVEVO. (cool name)

I GET KNOCKED DOWN – take a second to listen.

Finding My Muse

A couple years ago I devoted a series on my personal blog, Doing Life Being Tiff, called Finding My Muse Interviews. I had just stepped back from a career as a REALTOR in Ohio and was lost. I loved real estate, but the market had tanked. In the past I had wore several hats as a volunteer and attempted a variety of direct sales companies, but my heart had always been wearing my hat as a stay at home Mom. A “job” I absolutely LOVED and knew I was meant to BE. My children were grown and had become fiercely independent as I had always hoped they would, although heartbreaking at the same time. I was searching for an occupation that embodied my passions and would excite and challenge me every morning. Thankfully, I have a completely supportive spouse who encourages me not to settle. Jeff is a wonderful cheerleader who believes in me. I had also surrounded myself with strong, successful women who love their careers. Finding My Muse interviews was an idea birthed out of a necessity to find what I should BE when I grew up. I learned that the key to their success required pressing into a passion. I longed to find my muse, something I could be passionate about.

I always knew I would own and operate my own business. As a little girl, I believed owning a business was how you became rich. Funny! The reality of owning a business is quite different from my childhood expectations. The truth is that it requires fortitude of spirit. An attribute I definitely possess. I frequently get knocked down in pursuit of the American dream.

 Fast forward.

I woke up this morning thinking of all the times I had got knocked down while testing various business ideas. My stack of business cards reminds me of all my attempts and failures at finding my muse. I always press into an idea until it is obvious that it isn’t the right fit, which usually requires a complete knock down. Insert a smile. 😉 I am so happy that I kept on getting up again. I wake up every morning with an adventure awaiting me.

{Hence my internal alarm clock waking me up at 4:30 this morning}

Flown The Coop allows me to pursue a passion for rescuing and repurposing cool junque, and gives me a platform to inspire creativity and a zest for life. I encourage you to press into your passions in spite of the inevitable knock downs. It is worth it.

I’d love to hear about how you found your muse. Leave a comment or join the conversation on the Flown The Coop Facebook Page. I love the inspiration I get from your stories.
